Last week’s A Taste of Black Austin’s Reception was an overwhelming success! As a visionary sponsor for the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce‘s inaugural A Taste of Black Austin’s reception, we had the fortunate experience to sample local Black chefs’ hors d’oeuvres as a means to explore the narrative of economic development through the historical context of food in Austin, Texas. All the dishes prepared were inspired by African-American cuisine found through recipe books and menus archived by the Austin History Center. A portion of the proceeds also helped to benefit Urban Roots, a non-profit that use food and farming to inspire, engage and nourish our community and the lives of our younger generation residing in Austin. The reception resulted in over 175 tickets sold and a bustling night at Peached Social House. All the chefs did an incredible job, not to mention it made for a wonderful start to Black History Month. You can keep up to date with The Great Austin Black Chamber of Commerce on Facebook, who’ve also compiled a list of Black-owned restaurants across Travis County.
